General Information
Making contemporary art accessible to everyone is one of MAC/VAL’s first missions. And this concerns all visitors with visual, hearing, mental or psychological impairment.
You are in charge of a group? Our team is here to answer any question you may have, advise you, help you plan your visit and assist you in the elaboration of a tailor-made project based on the special needs and requests of your group. Our guides work with tactile and sound devices conceived to meet everyone’s needs.
To fight seclusion and promote exchange, all our events are aimed at a mixed audience, whether disabled or not.
MAC/VAL frequently offers to individual visitors multisensory tours created by a guest artist and programmed on Sunday, along with guided tours given by a deaf guide in sign language. Tours are open to everyone without reservation.
Disabled people and those accompanying them benefit from free admission.
Blind and visually impaired visitors
Every three months, blind writer and storyteller Claire Bartoli gives oral and tactile guided tours.
Upon request, our tour guides can arrange oral and tactile tours, as well as discovery workshops, for children groups, adults and families.
Free audio guides are available at the museum reception or downloadable on our website.
Signage, artwork descriptions and captions are written in large print.
The MAC/VAL documentation center also provides workstations for blind or visually impaired visitors: screen reader, letter-enlargement software, a tactile Braille display, voice recognition scanner and Maltron enlarged keyboard. Museum collection catalogues have been recorded in Daisy digital format and can be browsed on specialized reading devices (Victor Classique).
Visitors with reduced mobility
The museum is fully accessible to people in wheelchairs. Wheelchairs and fold-up seats are available at the reception upon request.
Deaf or hearing-impaired visitors
Every three months, Levent Beskardes (a deaf mute artist and actor, as he likes to call himself) gives tours in sign language.
Upon request, our lecturer can arrange sign language tours and discovery workshops for children groups, adults and families.
Our auditorium is equipped with magnetic tapes for hearing-impaired visitors with hearing aids.
Along with free audio guides, hearing loops are available at the museum reception.
Mentally or psychologically-impaired visitors
Tours and discovery workshops can be arranged for children groups, adults and families upon request. Our team is here to answer any question individuals or groups (schools, associations, medico-social institutions, community centers, etc.) may have, to help you plan your visit and assist you in the elaboration of a tailor-made visit based on the special needs and request of your group.

Visitors with mental or psychological disability
Visits and discovery workshops are adapted for groups of children, adults or families upon request. Our public service team is available for individual visitors and group guides (school, association, medico-social institutions, community centres, etc) for information, preparing a tour and developing a specific project depending on each person’s wishes and specificities.
